For years, Illinois politicians have driven our state in the wrong direction—a direction that’s leading us to financial ruin. That’s why we’re launching the Illinois Turnaround Campaign, focused on practical, common-sense solutions to our state’s problems:
• Stopping out-of-control state spending
- The Illinois budget can be balanced without tax hikes. Read our Budget Solutions 2011 report to learn more.
- Where does Illinois stand? Read up on key facts about our state’s economy here.
• Expanding government transparency
- Wonder where your tax dollars are going? Visit IllinoisOpenGov.org, our new, comprehensive transparency site, to look inside the books.
- Want to get involved on the local level? Join our Liberty Leaders volunteer program, which has already worked to make local governments transparent across the state.
• Reforming our bankrupt state pension system
- Our state pension system is more than $83 billion in the hole. We’ve put together a plan that fixes the pension problem while respecting both taxpayers and the promises made to public employees. Read our updated Pension Funding and Fairness Act here.
• Removing government roadblocks to prosperity
- We’re working to remove the many Illinois restrictions that stifle would-be entrepreneurs. You can learn more about one example passed by the state legislature here.
